Mentor is one great shopping destination — with nearly 600 retail businesses. A low 6.75% sales tax also makes the shopping better in Mentor. In fact, so many people come here to shop, that Mentor ranks 7th in Ohio in volume of total retail sales! (The top ten in order are: Columbus, Cincinnati, Toledo, Cleveland, Akron, Kettering, MENTOR, Dublin, North Olmsted and Cuyahoga Falls.)
In 1961, the Great Lakes Mall opened as the world’s largest indoor shopping mall. While it’s no longer the largest, it’s still pretty impressive with 1.5 million square feet of retail space on 125 acres of land. The mall contains 110 stores and is anchored by J.C. Penney, Macy’s, Sears and Dillard’s department stores and is currently undergoing a multi-million dollar remodeling.
